Hillcrest did everything as a team in a 54-45 victory over Oswego in a Class 3A girls basketball semifinal battle today at Redbird Arena at Illinois State University in Normal. They'll try to keep that momentum going into the title game Saturday against Montini.

Oswego School Board member and Oswego High dad John Graff is cheering on the Oswego Lady Panthers basketball team. Today he heads downstate with family and friends to watch the the girls team compete in the semifinals and perhaps for the Class 3A state title.

Heading into this season, the Oswego Panthers girls team did not shy away from making a trip to Illinois State University a goal -- never mind that no girls team from Oswego had ever done so. "The girls put in the time, worked really hard and stayed together and have done everything we've asked of them," coach Chad Pohlmann said. "We did set our goals very high."

A new analysis of road fatalities in Kane and other area counties finds about one-third of traffic deaths linked to drinking and driving. In Kane County, there were about 600 traffic fatalities between 1994 and 2008, according to an analysis done by Scripps Howard News Service. Of those, 35.5 percent involved drinking.
